What to Expect When You Get a Custom Shower Screen Installed in Ballarat

Getting a custom shower screen is simpler than most people expect. There's no guessing at sizes and no wrestling with flat-pack panels. Someone measures your space, the screen is made to fit, and a team installs it.

Here's what the process looks like with GlazeX, step by step, so you know exactly what's coming.

Step 1: Get in touch

It starts with a phone call or a quote request through our website. It helps if you can tell us:

  • Where you are (Ballarat, Ararat, Stawell or nearby)
  • Whether it's a new bathroom, a renovation or a replacement
  • The style you're leaning towards: frameless, semi-frameless, framed or sliding
  • Any rough sizes, if you have them
  • A photo of the space, if you can take one

Don't worry if you haven't decided on a style yet. That's what the next step is for.

You're also welcome to visit our showroom at 729 Creswick Rd, Wendouree, next to Mars Stadium. Seeing screens and hardware finishes in person makes decisions much easier.

Step 2: The on-site measure

We'll book a time to come out and measure. This is the most important part of the whole job, because a custom screen is only as good as its measurements.

During the measure we'll:

  • Take precise measurements of the opening, walls and floor
  • Check whether walls are plumb and how the floor falls to the drain
  • Look at where tiles finish and where hardware can be fixed
  • Talk through screen styles, glass options and hardware finishes
  • Answer your questions and explain anything that might affect the design

In older homes it's common to find walls that aren't perfectly straight. That's fine: we account for it in the design so the finished screen still fits neatly.

If you're mid-renovation

Timing matters. For an accurate measure, tiling should be complete and the shower base or floor finished. If your bathroom is still being built, let us know where it's up to and we can plan the measure around your tiler and plumber.

Step 3: Your quote and choices

After the measure you'll get a quote based on your actual space and chosen options. This is where you confirm:

  • Screen style: frameless, semi-frameless, framed or sliding (such as our Manhattan slider)
  • Door configuration: which way it opens and where the handle goes
  • Hardware finish: Chrome, Black, Brushed Nickel, Gunmetal, French Gold or Brushed Gold
  • Supply only or supply and install: if you have your own installer, we can supply only

Once you're happy, we lock in the order.

Step 4: Your screen is made to fit

Your glass and hardware are made to your measurements. Lead times depend on the style and finish you choose; we'll give you an expected timeframe with your quote.

If you're within 50km of Ballarat, delivery is free.

Step 5: Installation day

On the day, our team arrives with your screen and everything needed to fit it. We fit it, seal it and check everything is working before we leave.

How to get ready:

  • Clear the shower and bathroom of bottles, mats and caddies
  • Make sure there's a clear path from the front door to the bathroom
  • Keep pets and young children out of the area while we work
  • Let us know about any parking or access issues ahead of time

During the install we'll fit the glass and hardware, align the door, fit seals and wipers, and apply silicone where needed.

Step 6: The final check

Before we leave we'll check that the door swings or slides smoothly, closes properly and lines up with its seals. We'll show you how everything works and point out anything you should know.

Before your first shower

Silicone needs time to cure before it gets wet. We'll tell you how long to wait before using the shower.

Looking after your new screen

A quick squeegee after each shower and a weekly wipe with a mild, non-abrasive cleaner will keep the glass clear. Avoid scourers and harsh chemicals, especially on hardware. Our cleaning guide on the blog covers this in more detail.

Why go custom?

Off-the-shelf screens are made for standard sizes, and very few bathrooms are perfectly standard. A made-to-measure screen:

  • Fits your actual opening, including walls that aren't quite straight
  • Looks neater, with consistent gaps and clean lines
  • Seals better, so water stays in the shower
  • Lets you choose the exact style and finish you want
